STA 111 lesson
Use discrete and continuous measurements to solve and interpret a specified problem.
STA111-T02-L02; Source: T4-6, T9 | Course topic 2
A discrete variable has a finite or countably infinite set of possible values. Counts are common examples, but discrete values need not be integers. A continuous model allows values throughout intervals, such as height or elapsed time. Recorded continuous measurements may be rounded to a finite precision. Binary categorical variables have two categories; other categorical variables have more. Ordered categories have a ranking, but differences between ranks need not represent equal quantities.
