STA 112 lesson
Explain and apply map outcomes to numbers.
STA112-T12-L01; Source: T48-51, S12, S15 | Course topic 1
A random variable is a function assigning a real number to each experimental outcome. Distinguish an outcome from its numeric summary: HH is an outcome of two coin tosses, while the number of heads is 2. The sample space contains all outcomes; the support of X contains the possible values of X. Several outcomes can map to the same value, so those values need not be equally likely.
