The cumulative distribution function is F(t)=P(X≤t), for any random variable. A CDF is nondecreasing, right-continuous, approaches zero at negative infinity and one at positive infinity. For discrete X it is a step function; the jump at x equals P(X=x). Use F for a CDF and p for a mass function to keep their different meanings clear.
