One-way ANOVA tests H0: μ1=...=μk against the alternative that at least one mean differs. It separates between-group variation from within-group variation. For the classical F test, observations are independent, errors are approximately normal within groups and population variances are equal. The factor identifies the groups; treatment is a group level. A significant omnibus test does not identify which pairs differ.
