Simple correlation describes association between two variables; multiple correlation concerns a variable in relation to several predictors. The supplement gives concepts rather than a complete calculation lesson. Correlation alone cannot establish causation: confounding or reverse direction can explain an association. Random sampling supports population generalisation; random treatment assignment supports causal comparison under a sound design. A feasibility study asks whether a proposed approach can work; it is not itself a test statistic.
