For the elementary equal-interval case with N divisible by n, choose k=N/n and a random starting position r from 1,...,k. Select positions r,r+k,...,r+(n-1)k. The random start is essential. Periodic structure in the ordered frame can interact badly with the interval; inspect the ordering. More elaborate procedures are needed when N/n is not an integer.
